LOWER SHOSHONE – Flows are around 700 cfs and the fishing has been great the last several weeks! There’s some floating moss with the higher flows. Trout are looking up for blue winged olive dun and emergers and midges during the warmest part of the day. Also a few winter stoneflies out. Nymphing sow bugs, midges and blue winged olive nymphs or tossing streamers have been working well.
BIG HORN / WIND – Flows are around 920 cfs and fishing has been good. Blue winged olives, midges, worms, sow bugs and streamers. Flushing flows are scheduled for March 28th as the river will be bumped to 5000 cfs and then remain at 2200 cfs after.
NORTH FORK – The river is open through the Wapiti Valley but the reservoir is still mostly frozen. Haven’t heard of any trout being caught yet but holding out hope we get a few days down low by the reservoir in late March before the closure April 1st. Won’t be long now before the cutthroat, rainbows and cutbows begin their annual migration! Big stonefly nymphs likes rubber legs, purple 20 Inchers, yuk bugs, hot head pheasant tails, halfbacks, zirdles, and Two Bit Stones as well as soft hackle beadheads and eggs in the slowest deepest runs will work well. Streamers, whether swung or stripped will also produce.
SOUTH FORK – Fishing has been consistent in Valley. There’s been a little dry fly activity on midges and blue winged olives but nymphing beadheads or tossing streamers will be your best bet.
CLARK’S FORK – Water quality is better above Paint and Pat O’Hara Creeks but is fishable all the way down to the state line. Few March Browns out as well as midges and blue winged olives. Nymphing stoneflies or beadhead nymphs or tossing treamers are your best bet.
GREYBULL / WOOD – Starting to thaw. Nymphing stoneflies and beadhead nymphs.
YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK – Closed to fishing until Memorial Day Weekend 2023!
NEWTON LAKES – Frozen.
LUCE/HOGAN RESERVOIRS – Frozen.
SUNSHINE RESERVOIRS – Frozen.
