LOWER SHOSHONE – Flows are 960 cfs and fishing has been good! Hoppers, tricos, caddis, midges, blue winged olives, pale evening duns and ants on top. Copper Johns, pheasant tails, rubber leg stones, prince nymphs and caddis pupa below the surface. Stripping leeches and streamers has been successful too.
BIG HORN / WIND – Flows are 900 and the trout have been big this year! Tricos, midges, hoppers, worms, leeches, crawdads, crane flies and streamers.
NORTH FORK – Fishing for the bigger migratory trout has been hit and miss up in the forest as most have returned to the reservoir. The tributaries and deeper runs are still holding some of the bigger trout however. Hoppers, ants, beetles, grey drakes, mahogany duns, pale evening duns and tricos on top. Drop smaller stones and general beadheads like prince nymphs, pheasant tails and hare’s ears.
SOUTH FORK – The Valley section has been fishing well. Hoppers, ants, beetles, mahogany duns, pale evening duns and blue winged olives on top. Drop smaller stones and general beadheads like prince nymphs, pheasant tails and hare’s ears. Stripping streamers like JJ specials, thin mints and jawbreakers will work as well.
CLARK’S FORK – Hoppers, pale evening duns, midges and blue winged olives on top. Drop smaller stones and general beadheads like prince nymphs, pheasant tails and hare’s ears and get them deep!
GREYBULL / WOOD – Hoppers, ants, beetles, pale evening duns, mahaogany duns, blue winged olives and pale evening duns on top. Smaller beadhead nymphs in sizes 14-18 are taking fish below the surface.
YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK – Swing soft hackles early on the Firehole and search for hopper eaters during the heat of the day. The Madison is starting to see a few runners out of Hebgen! Fishing streamers deep in the early morning hours will be your best bet. The NE corner (Slough, Soda Butte and Lamar) are still seeing a few caddis, grey drakes and pale evening duns. Hoppers, ants and beetles will be your best bet.
NEWTON LAKES – Both lakes are incredibly full. Midges, scuds, damsels, hoppers, ants, beetles and leeches.
LUCE / HOGAN RESERVOIRS – Scuds, damsels, leeches, midges, hoppers, ants, and beetles.
