FISHING REPORT – JUNE 19TH, 2020

LOWER SHOSHONE – Flows were dropped to 1400 cfs and the water is still a little off color but fishable. With the reservoir not terribly muddy though, we should be back on the Lower sooner than normal this summer. Try caddis, yellow sallies, hoppers, lightning bugs, rubber legs, leeches and dark streamers.

BIG HORN / WIND – Flows are 1400. Flushing flows a few weeks ago didn’t help disperse the moss mush unfortunately. Yellow sallies, pmd’s, tricos, lightning bugs, sow bugs, scuds, hoppers, worms, leeches, crawdads, crane flies and streamers.

NORTH FORK – Closed downstream of Newton Creek until July 1st! Water quality above the closure has improved on both the main stem and tributaries with the cooler weather. Flows are still big but trout are being caught anywhere holding water can be found. Stick with the big heavy flies like rubber legs, zirdles, yuk bugs, mega princes, twenty inchers, golden stones, and half backs. Lots of beadhead nymphs like Bloody Marys, Copper Johns, Duracells, two bit stones, possie buggers, prince nymphs, worms and eggs will work as well. Streamers such as jawbreakers, thin mints, rusty trombones, goldies and Swim Coaches. Go heavy on the tippet! 0x-2x!

SOUTH FORK – Flows are still big but, even at Valley, but are dropping. Clarity has really improved as well. Same bugs as the North Fork if you can find holding water…

CLARK’S FORK – Dropping and clearing with a very fishable green color at Edelweiss. As with all our freestone rivers right now, look for holding water like the structures below the canyon as they provide a break in the heavy current. Salmonflies and golden stones should be close to emerging. Rubber legs in black, purple and brown in sizes 4-8 work well for the nymphs. Flutterbugs, Henry’s Fork Salmonflies and chubbies work well for adults. But streamers and worms can work as well!

GREYBULL / WOOD – The Greybull is a little off color but fishable and the Wood is clear. Golden stone nymphs and general beadheads subsurface. Small chubbies and water walkers in gold, yellow stimulators and attractors on top.

YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK – On the west side, The Firehole is beginning to warm up but the recent cooler weather brought out some good PMD hatches. Rusty spinners in size 16-18 have been working well as have White Miller patterns in size 14-16. The NE Corner is still high and off color. Fish the drop offs on Yellowstone Lake with leeches and streamers.

NEWTON LAKES – Both lakes are incredibly full. Midges, scuds, callibaetis, damsels and leeches.

LUCE / HOGAN RESERVOIRS – Scuds, callibaetis, damsels, leeches, midges, ants, and beetles.
