LOWER SHOSHONE – Flows are around 3000 cfs. Water quality has diminished significantly as the mud line in the reservoir is getting closer to the dam. Nymph and streamer rigs will be your best bet. Use bigger, dark colored flies as they will be more easily seen in the off color water.
BIG HORN / WIND – Flows are around 3500 cfs. Sow bugs, worms, leeches, crawdads and streamers. Flies to use include: San Juan worms, yuk bugs, thin mints, zirdles, cowbell crawfish, perdigons, sow bugs, chubbies, Duracells, pine squirrel leeches, sparkle minnows, Goldies, Swim Coaches and Jawbreakers.
NORTH FORK – The river is now CLOSED to fishing downstream of Newton Creek until July 1st. While flows are still high, clarity above Eagle Creek is looking good. We caught some fish out of the slower, deeper runs on Sunday, 6/11. Flies to use include: Yuk bugs, Halfbacks, 20 Inchers, Mega Princes, Two Bit Stone, CDC Stone, TJ Hookers, Thin Mints, Bloody Marys, San Juan worms, Hustlers, Duracells and Copper Johns.
SOUTH FORK – The upper river is trying to clear up but recent rains have bumped up flows and diminished clarity. If you give it a shot, focus on the soft seams and eddies with Pat’s Rubber legs, 20 Inchers, Two Bit Stones, CDC Stones, Thin Mints, San Juan worms, soft hackle pheasant tails, Hustlers, Possie Buggers, Duracells, Goldies, Rusty Trombones and Jawbreakers.
CLARK’S FORK – Big flows and low clarity on the lower river means the fishing options will most likely be limited to non-existent until runoff subsides in late June or Early July. However, while still high, the water clarity is looking good above Crandall Creek on the upper river. Flies to use include: Pat’s Rubber legs, soft hackle pheasant tails, San Juan worms, Duracells, prince nymphs, copper johns, worms, perdigons, and Hare’s Ears.
GREYBULL / WOOD – Recent rains, combined with runoff, have really bumped up the flows and diminished clarity on the Greybull. The Wood and other tributaries are better options if you give it a shot as they ususally clear up before the Greybull. Flies to use include: Pat’s rubber legs, soft hackles pheasant tails, San Juan worms, Duracells, prince nymphs, Copper Johns, Hare’s Ears and perdigons.
YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK – The Firehole, Gibbon and Madison are your best bets. PMD’s, baetis, caddis and salmon flies are out. Swinging soft hackles and small streamers between hatches is a great way to pick up some fish. The NE Corner rivers and streams (Lamar, Slough, Soda Butte) are all high and off color due to runoff. Yellowstone Lake is also a great option this time of year. Strip streamers or hang balanced leeches under a bobber. Remember…the Yellowstone River above Lower Falls to the lake is closed to fishing until July 1st!
NEWTON LAKES – Chironomids, callibaetis, damsels, scuds, leeches and terrestrials.
LUCE/HOGAN RESERVOIRS – Chironomids, callibaetis, damsels, scuds, leeches and terrestrials.
SUNSHINE RESERVOIRS – Chironomids, callibaetis, damsels, scuds, leeches and terrestrials.
